With Black Friday falling on 27 November 2026, deals are about to be everywhere. A low monthly price can hide a high total cost, so compare the full picture.
Work out the true cost of a contract
- Take the monthly fee and multiply it by the number of months (usually 24).
- Add any once-off fee, deposit or upfront payment.
- Add insurance, extras or add-ons you must take.
- Compare that total with the phone’s cash price plus the cost of a separate data plan.
Questions to ask
- What happens to the price after the first 12 months?
- Is the monthly fee for the phone only, or does it include data and minutes?
- Can I upgrade or cancel early, and what does that cost?
- Is the phone locked to one network?
When cash is better
If you can afford to pay cash, you can pair the phone with a cheaper SIM-only or prepaid data plan, which often costs less over time. Contracts make sense when you need to spread the cost and the total is competitive.

Always compare the total over the whole contract, not just the monthly fee.
